OCALA ART GROUP PRESENTS:

Ken Austin, NWS, FWS

Ken is an artist, a teacher and the organizer and founder of the Central Florida Watercolor Society. He has been teaching beginner and advanced students for more than 20 years in graduate and undergraduate settings as well as private and public courses and workshops. Ken’s main interest in watercolor and water media is to explore color, pattern and expressive painting. His works are widely varied and therefore not easily categorized because his taste in technique and concepts are just as diverse. Ken sees art not as a subject or object but rather as a verb, the doing of art!

Ken calls Florida home and works from his studio in Orlando, although he started his artistic career in Texas. With a background in architecture and city planning, Ken found his way to watercolor painting through a series of wonderful coursework and connections. Today, Ken continues to explore and produce paintings which are included in national juried competitions all over the U.S, His paintings have won praise and prizes form nationally known artists and jurors and are in many private and cor-porate collections. Aside from his very full days as artist and teacher, Ken loves his role as Grandfather, picking the banjo and painting every chance he gets.

So what is Ken going to demonstrate for us . . . Ken will share the methods he uses to find abstract paint-ings from and within “real” subjects. He will use water-color, Prismacolor, gouache and maybe some acrylics if he feels their use will en-hance the watercolors.

This is valuable information if you’ve always wanted to loosen up or dabble more with abstract or conceptual painting.

Years later Grace moved to the U.S.A. where she furthered her art education at many noteworthy institutions as well as studies in Mexico and Europe. After raising her two boys she returned to the spotlight in 1986 and won first prize in 3D art hosted by a Tampa TV station. Then she went on to win Best Still Life at the Tampa Realistic Art Cen-ter. Then she began studying art on a large scale. Grace has won nu-merous awards over the years including, 2011 Best of Show, Marion Cultural Alliance, The Art of Illustrations.

Grace’s artwork resides in numerous public and private collections throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Spain, Greece, Ecuador, Pa-nama and India. Grace is constantly testing new ground by switching mediums to communicate her artistic vision. She says of her work, “I under-stand art as the expression of my inner feelings not a copy of existing objects. In my opinion, art is a way of transforming ob-jects into feelings and color ex-presses the moods and emo-tions”.
